White House Announces Historic Separation of Money and Corruption

New ethics framework officially eliminates presidential corruption by classifying payments to family businesses as “commerce.”

— The White House announced Thursday that presidential corruption has effectively been eliminated in the United States following a historic modernization of the federal definition of bribery.

Under the new standard, money given directly to a public official in exchange for government action will remain illegal. Money invested in financial products benefiting businesses associated with the president’s family while the president controls policy affecting those products will be classified as “commerce.”

“This is an incredibly important distinction,” a senior administration official explained. “Bribery is when somebody gives you money and you promise them something. Commerce is when somebody gives you money and everybody remains mature enough not to discuss what happens next.”

The reform arrives during an extraordinary period of financial innovation for the Trump family. The family’s World Liberty Financial crypto venture has attracted substantial foreign investment, including a $100 million token purchase by UAE-based Aqua 1 Foundation. Reuters reported that the purchase made Aqua 1 the largest publicly known investor in World Liberty at the time.

Administration officials emphasized that such financial developments occurred while President Trump was exercising the completely separate powers of the presidency to reshape federal cryptocurrency policy.

In January 2025, Trump signed an executive order establishing a presidential working group on digital assets and directing agencies to identify regulations and other actions affecting the sector that should be rescinded or modified. The White House described the policy as part of Trump's effort to make the United States the “crypto capital of the planet.”

In March, Trump went further, signing an executive order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and United States Digital Asset Stockpile.

Officials stressed that government cryptocurrency policy and presidential-family cryptocurrency wealth occupy entirely separate ethical universes, despite occasionally occupying the same industry.

The administration cited the President’s $TRUMP meme coin as another breakthrough in clean government. In 2025, Trump hosted a dinner for the coin’s 220 largest holders, with additional access offered to the biggest investors. The Associated Press reported on the dinner and the resulting conflict-of-interest and transparency concerns.

AP separately reported that the $TRUMP operation had generated more than $320 million in fees and that the pseudonymous nature of cryptocurrency raised questions about who could be buying access. The top 220 holders qualified for dinner with the president, while the top 25 qualified for an additional reception.

“That is the beauty of blockchain,” explained Deputy Assistant Secretary for Things That Are Technically Different. “With old-fashioned corruption, investigators wasted years following the money. Now the money can move first and everyone can argue about what it meant afterward.”

The reforms have attracted significant international interest. Reuters has documented the rapid expansion of the Trump family’s global crypto business, including significant participation by foreign investors and the use of World Liberty’s USD1 stablecoin in a $2 billion Binance investment involving Abu Dhabi’s MGX. Reuters called it the Trump family’s “global crypto cash machine.”

Ethics specialists and lawmakers have raised concerns about conflicts between presidential authority and the Trump family’s crypto interests. Administration officials have rejected accusations of wrongdoing and conflicts of interest.

White House officials noted that nobody has produced a receipt reading ONE FOREIGN-POLICY FAVOR — PAID IN FULL.

“That would be corruption,” the official said.

Instead, foreign governments, billionaires and investors remain free to place enormous amounts of money into ventures benefiting the president’s family while simultaneously maintaining interests before the United States government.

“What happens after that is foreign policy,” he explained.

The White House expects the new definition to produce dramatic improvements in federal ethics statistics.

“Under the old system, people saw conflicts everywhere,” the official said. “Under this system, there can’t be a conflict unless somebody actually calls it one.”

Officials predict presidential corruption could reach zero by Christmas.

Markets rallied on the news.
