Trump Escalates War on Pope: ICE Agents Destroy Popemobile as Warning
Federal officials defended the destruction of the Pope’s ceremonial vehicle as a necessary demonstration of border seriousness after papal criticism of deportation raids.
CHICAGO — Federal tensions between President Trump and the Vatican spiraled Thursday after heavily armed ICE tactical agents surrounded and demolished the Pope’s ceremonial Popemobile outside O’Hare International Airport in what administration officials described as “a necessary demonstration of border seriousness.”
The operation began shortly after Pope Leo XIV criticized recent deportation raids during a Vatican livestream viewed by nearly four million Catholics and at least twelve extremely angry men inside a Buffalo Wild Wings outside Joliet.
Witnesses said black-clad agents emerged from unmarked SUVs carrying breaching tools, riot shields, and industrial spray paint before methodically smashing the vehicle’s armored glass enclosure while tactical drones circled overhead broadcasting Lee Greenwood songs at psychologically destabilizing volume.
